Foothills Family
The Rainbow Flag:

created in 1978 for San Francisco's Gay Freedom Celebration by Gilbert Baker, depicts not the shape of the rainbow, but its colors in horizontal stripes. The Rainbow Flag has been adopted as the Gay and Lesbian flag. It represents the diversity yet unity of Gays and Lesbians universally.

History:

Founded in 1992 by John Orlando, David Vogel, Chil Chilcote and Jim Yturri, the Foothills Family quickly became a way for Gays and Lesbians who live in the foothills west of Wadsworth Blvd. to meet and socialize with their like-minded neighbors. We knew other Gays and Lesbians lived in the foothills, but aside from venturing to the bars in Denver, there was no way to meet them. So the founders ran an ad in Out Front.

The group has never had a formal structure or elected leadership, yet has existed over ten years. Many have commented that the Foothills Family had changed their lives. They no longer felt isolated, forced to journey to Denver just to meet friends. Some have found romance and life partners, while many have surely made lasting friendships at the parties sponsored by our members throughout the years.

Social Activities:

Over the past few years, regular events on the Foothills Family calendar have included a Christmas Party complete with a gift exchange, a Mardi Gras Party, a celebration of summer "Margarita Party" and other great theme get togethers.
